Full Color Envelopes
Converted offset-Printed Envelopes

Converted Envelopes are offset printed (on a real printing press, with ink), offering the ultimate in quality with few limitations…  Converted envelopes are printed on flat paper (typically in full color) and THEN converted into envelopes afterwards.

Converted Envelopes Advantages

Converted envelopes are not printed on “pre-made” envelopes. They are offset-printed on a flat sheet with inks (rather than digitally), offering many advantages. Heavy ink coverage and gradients do not run across the envelope seams, so your design has not danger of compromises in quality. Full bleeds (printing to the envelope edges) have no possibility of ink buildup on the envelope edges.

If your design includes printing on the back side of the envelope, there is no increase in cost. Since they are printed on flat paper prior to converting the front and back sides of the envelope are all on the same side of the sheet anyway!

One Design Limitation

Because converted envelopes must be die cut and folded after they are printed, your design needs to either print PAST the folds of the envelope, or stop prior to the edges f the folds. This does exclude the possibility of having the envelope flaps be a solid ink color, yet having no ink on the tops of the front of the envelope. Notice in the design example above, that the design flows seamlessly from the top of the envelope to the flap with no sudden change in the design on the fold of the flap.

Known as “registration”, this limitation is a 1/16″ = 0.0625″ variance that all printing companies have when converting an envelope. Design templates for converted envelopes are available for download.
